Ronald Comerford Obituary

Temple, Texas - It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald (Ron) William Comerford on January 23, 2024, at his home in Temple, Texas from cerebrovascular disease.

He was born on April 30.1934 the only child of William Edward  Comerford and Agnes (Huddleston)  Comerford who both preceded him in death.

He graduated from West Tech High School in 1952 where he lettered in basketball as the center for the team.  At 6'8" he also played on the Baldwin Wallace College team.  He was an outside salesman by trade..

Ron was an avid sportsman and spent many hours fishing for walleye on Lake Erie.   He also loved fishing in the Florida Keys where he was second mate on a charter fishing boat for Captain Hal Sharpe.

He began trap shooting in the 1950's and soon knew that was his sport.  He was unhappy that the shot would not stay in a straight pattern but would spread over a large area.  That lead to his idea of developing a "wad" that would hold the shot  in a pattern making it much easier to break clay targets.  His patent was registered in 1962 and Winchester/Remington purchased it in 1963.  His invention revolutionized the entire industry and wads are being produced every  day.  Ron was a member of the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club Trap Team for many years where he enjoyed the friendships and competition.

He met his future wife, Peggy Yaeger, on a blind date in 1967 and they were married on January 25, 1969 at Old Springfield Church in New Middletown, Ohio.  This union produced two daughters Stacey Lyn (Robert) Boal of Franklin, Pennsylvania, and Karin Sue Myers of Temple, Texas.   They were also blessed with three Grandchildren Katherine (Katie )Boal, Sophia Boal, and Robert (Bobby) Boal also of Franklin, Pennsylvania, who affectionately called Ron "DoDo".  He also leaves a brother-in-law Larry Yaeger and his deceased wife Wilma, a brother-in-law Rodney Yaeger and his wife Betsy and their family.

Ron and Peggy both enjoyed traveling and together they were able to see much of the United States including a seventeen week camping trip from Ohio to above the Arctic Circle in Alaska with many stops in between.  Internationally they visited friends in Berlin, Germany, and Switzerland, boated on the canals in Holland, rode camels at the Giza Pyramids in Cairo, Egypt, went on the zip line in the canopy of Costa Rica, cruised the Nile River and the Caribbean Ocean and passed through the Panama Canal.  These are memories they have cherished their entire lives.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date in New Middletown, Ohio conducted by the Clemente Funeral Home.
